How serious of a condition is Narcolepsy?
I may have developed narcolepsy and I wanted to know how serious this condition is.
I need to know if I should be freaking out right now or not.

Serious in the sense of safety and being able to be a dependable employee. U can’t drive unless medicated or work either.

Serious, but usually it is caused by sleep apnea which can be totally handled with a cpap. I use one, no big deal. If it isn’t from sleep apnea it can be caused by serious issues.
You should see someone very soon. Narcolepsy can inhibit you from doing many things safely, most notably driving, but you can live normally! My former VP was narcoleptic.
Tell you Dr to put you on stimulants like the ones used for ADHD. Works like a charm.
Serious because there is no cure. Of course they can treat symptoms but the med’s can be pricey and can carry a lot of side effects. It just depends on how bad your narcolepsy is and if you also have cataplexy as well. (many narcoleptics do)
I suffer from narcolepsy and it’s the most frusturating thing I’ve ever had to deal with.
Bottom line narcolepsy makes your life more of a fight and a struggle than it already is. And it’s not to be taken lightly.
It depends on how serious your symptoms are.
Do not freak out it is not something you can die from.
It is serious in that there is not a cure, but the symptoms are treatable.
If you are having sleep problems consult a sleep specialist and ask about a “sleep study.”
